ISO Advice: Preserving baby balloon

Hello! I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to preserve an inflated balloon. For the record it's not new, it's made it fully inflated now for three years and now I want to see how long I can keep it in this condition. I'm guessing it was helium inflated, it is on a stick, and about 8" diameter. A quick Google search told me the oldest balloon life recorded was 12 years. I was first considering a shadow box but I'm scared to cut the stick in case it causes it to deflate, I don't have any experience really working with balloons or balloon sticks.
