🎇 Goodbye 2020. Hello 2021❗ Have you ever seen a slow-motion firework show that lasted… well over 150 YEARS? Meet Eta Carinae. Eta Carinae, shown here in a NASAHubble image is a doomed super-massive star 7,500 light-years away that went through a “Great Eruption” in the 1840s that made it the second-brightest visible star in the sky for over a decade — it was so bright that sailors at the time used it as an important navigational star in the southern seas. The coming year is packed with amazing science and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have each of you along for the ride! From all of us here at NASA, we thank you for your unwavering support, resilience, and motivation. 🚀 Credits: NASA, ESA, N. Smith (University of Arizona) and J. As the Sun sets on 2020, I'm thinking of everyone back on planet Earth. Here's to the next orbit, and brighter sols to come! Save the date: @NASAPersevere lands Feb. 18, 2021. #CountdownToMars #HappyNewYear https://t.co/KhKoyszALb
